The Literacy Council of Garland County (LCGC)
Established in 1983 as an adult educational nonprofit, the LCGC offers one-on-one and small group tutoring. Our mission is to enhance success in daily living by building literacy skills. We are a partner of the United Way of the Ouachitas, members of ProLiteracy, and the Adult Learning Alliance of Arkansas.
Approximately 80,000 residents live in Garland County and about 10,000 adults are considered functionally illiterate. Low literacy presents many challenges in daily life and slows the economic growth for our entire region. These adults may not be able to read a newspaper, prescription bottle or help their child with homework.
