Free tutoring for any adult who wants to learn to read, to improve their writing or math skills or to learn English.
Established in 1983 as an adult educational nonprofit, the LCGC offers one-on-one and small group tutoring. Our mission is to enhance success in daily living by building literacy skills. We are a partner of the United Way of the Ouachitas, members of ProLiteracy, and the Adult Learning Alliance of Arkansas.
Our Community
Of the approximately 80,000 residents living in Garland County,10,000 adults are considered functionally illiterate. Low literacy presents many challenges in daily life and slows the economic growth for our entire region. These adults may not be able to read directions on a prescription bottle or help their child with homework.
How can you help?
Volunteer! The gift of your time, just one-two hours per week, helps open doors and create new opportunities for our adult learners.
“How wonderful it is that nobody needs to wait a single moment to improve the world”… Anne Frank
“At The Literacy Council of Garland County, diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the core of our mission and vision. We remain committed racial and ethnic equity in our community. Through literacy, we can have a community that welcomes everyone.”
